A powerful, incisive, sharp, and electric mouthpiece purpose-built for modern playing and big stages while honoring the soul of the originals that marked tenor sax history.
The MB1 is a meticulous recreation of the numbered Dave Guardala mouthpieces from the ’80s—now rare or overpriced on the vintage market (often over $2,000 for a clean original). Every design detail has been reproduced: internal and external geometry, weight, the original “Dave Guardala” facing curve measured from a pristine period piece, and the interior/exterior finish.
The bite plate is made from premium natural German ebonite—more refined and durable than the pink resin found on original Guardala models. Subtle variations in marbling from plate to plate make every mouthpiece unique.
The goal was to create a unique model, not a simple copy. The colors pay tribute to Dave Guardala and Michael Brecker. After discussions with saxophonists, the album artwork of Return of the Brecker Brothers (1992) became a major source of inspiration.
The pink recalls the handmade Guardala pieces, while the pink-and-green marbled motif evokes the ’80s–’90s “Brecker fusion” universe symbolizing the link between Brecker’s career and Guardala’s work.
